Coaches Corner #6 Well it’s late February and the start of the 2008 season is right around the corner. The team is in great anticipation for the new year and they are working hard in practice to prepare for the season. As a coaching staff, it’s been an interesting and unique challenge to prepare a young team for the upcoming season. A lot of stuff has been thrown at the kids but they are taking it in stride and translating it onto the playing field. It is a challenge that the coaching staff does not shy away from. We are excited for March 14th and the opening game at Lynchburg. The pitchers are well into their pre-season throwing program and you can see a definite growth in the younger pitchers. We will be relying on them to solidify our staff this year with seniors Jason Protano and Adam Telian leading the way. The lineup looks to be led by junior Kevin Casey, Eric Catalanotti and senior Steve Ragonese. We also return a number of sophomores with playing experience who will look to contribute. From a coaching standpoint, one of the great things to see is that we have some competitive kids who are pushing each other at every position. It makes our decision making hard but that’s a good problem to have. I want to take the opportunity to remind everyone about the Golf Tournament. The registration form is posted on the alumni website. It’s a great chance to come back and see old teammates and meet the new alumni. Also, the Diamond Club is a great opportunity and I want to thank the alumni for their efforts. It is another aspect of Tufts Baseball that proves it’s a great tradition to be a part of. Lastly, please check out the senior resumes. Any help you can give these great kids is a tremendous help. We wish you the best and hope to see you at a game this spring. Go Jumbos.

DIAMOND CLUB LOGO UNVEILED!!

After a lot of hard work and creative discussion, the founding members of the Tufts Baseball Diamond Club have unveiled their new logo. This distinctive logo will identify this special group of supporters of Tufts Baseball. 2008 Diamond Club members will recieve a quality polo shirt with the new logo embroidered on it in the near future. Please consider becoming a Diamond Club member. You can click on the link below to get a Diamond Club intro letter and application as well as a FAQ list. Remember your greens fees for the 2008 Alumni Golf Tournament are included in your Diamond Club membership. Golf Registration Form

On Friday, along with the annual Golf Tournament, which will tee off at 7:45am, there will be a raffle, a silent auction benefiting the college fund for Coach Burr's son. Following the raffle there will be a lunch buffet and then a reception. The reception will be held at a facility near the course as in previous years. On Saturday starting at 2pm will be the Alumni game. All are welcome to join us rain or shine at Huskin's field. Immediately following the game there will be a cookout.

After terrific senior seasons, two Tufts Alums, Brian Casey and Bryan McDavitt played in the NEIBA All Star game at Fenway Park on July 22nd 2007. The College Division, made up of DII and DIII all stars beat the University Division, comprised of DI all stars, 2-0. McDavitt started at first base and made a great play n an errant throw early in the game which kept the University players off of the bases and unable to score. Brian Casey entered the game at second base in the third inning. Brian Casey drove in the first run of the game with a line drive to right field to sac in the runner from third. That was all the college division would need to get the win.
