The following week their record improved to 12-4-1, beating Mass. Maritime 25-4 and taking 3 out of 4 from Wesleyan. As the equipment van is getting packed up and ready to head south today at noon, we bring you the second installment of the 2002 10 year anniversary celebration. As our followers on Facebook and Twitter already know, the article below is a preview of the 2002 Tufts Baseball team's season. As the season progresses continue to check in and follow not only the 2012 Baseball team's journey but relive the 2002 NCAA tournament run!
As opening day draws closer for the 2012 Jumbos, the 2012 Diamond Club roster expands as well. We are proud to announce the renewal of the membership in the Diamond Club for 6 great former Jumbo ballplayers. Class of '77 and stalwart supporter of Jumbo baseball, Mark Fisher leads off this push for opening day. Mark was a 2 sport athlete @ Tufts and continues to be a leader amongst our alums w/ his great support. The classes of 98/99 come through with teammates Pat Fernan, Brian Symmons and Jon Mugar renewing their memberships. Pat's Dad Pete mans the grill for our alumni game each spring and all the participants have trouble focusing on the game once Pete lights that grill. We thank all the Fernans for their great loyalty and support. Symmy was one of the toughest players to ever put on a Jumbo uniform and continues to be a great leader of the baseball alums. I miss lunch w/Brian as he is now enjoying the CA sunshine with his family. A special thanks to Jon Mugar for his tremendous support of the program. I seek and appreciate his advice on a lot of matters and know how deeply he cares for the program. Billy Carroll '85, my first GA, has renewed his membership. Billy was the 1st in a long line of Tufts GAs who have given so much to the program. Bill set a high bar for them to live up to, thanks Billy. Finally my teammate Dr. Matt Howard has again joined the Diamond Club. Matt was a great teammate and we still love to swap tales of our playing days. Matt is a distinguished doctor and a leader in his field and I am proud to call him a friend. Thanks for the great send off guys as we pack our bags to head south, your support always inspires us to live up to the standards you left us.
We are proud to announce that Colin Cash class of 95 and his company Atlantic Asphalt have once again signed on to become the primary sponsor of the 2012 Tufts Baseball Alumni Golf Tournament. We are thrilled to have Atlantic on board again and want to thank Colin and his family for their wonderful support of Tufts Baseball. Any alums or their companies may inquire about other sponsorship opportunities for the 2012 Tufts Baseball Alumni weekend by emailing: john.casey@tufts.edu ______________________________________________________________________________________

What a way to start the lineup!!!Leading off is a member of the 1950 Tufts World Series team; Jack Fitzsimmons '52, two stalwarts Tom Snarsky, '85, who once had the longest hitting streak in the nation and Dave Bishop '05 who has truly stepped up to the plate w/ his wonderful donation and installation of the new PA system @ Huskins join Jack in the opening day lineup. John Casey '80 follows them into the Diamond Club for 2012. Next is a Diamond Club first as we welcome longtime Jumbo supporter Nancy (Rocky) Cafiero '52 to the lineup. Rocky is as knowledgeable baseball person as there is and we are proud to have her as the First Lady of the Diamond Club!!! 2/15/12 The Diamond Club lineup keeps getting stronger and better, the Red Sox are getting jealous!! We are happy to announce three returning big hitters to our lineup and a new addition which gives us even more pop. Roger Grenier '88 an outstanding captain and defensive whiz has renewed his Diamond Club membership. We also welcome our great West Coast Diamond Club member class of '69 alum Oscar Porter. Oscar has been a stalwart member of the Diamond Club; going even FURTHER WEST, we see Hawaii resident Robert Cyboron '70 renew his membership as well. Robert has been a great friend of Tufts Baseball and hopefully one day we'll get the team out to the islands to play in front of him! We all would like to welcome the new addition to our Diamond Club lineup Russell O'Brien '79. Russ was a 2 sport athlete at Tufts (baseball & football) and one heckuva an outfielder. Welcome Russell and thanks for your support.
Alumni Weekend May 4-5, 2012 22nd Annual Alumni Golf tournament Friday 5/4/12 23rd Annual Alumni Game Saturday 5/5/12 Holiday Gathering Wrap-Up It was great to see so many guys come back last week for our holiday gathering. We had another great turnout with 27 alum meeting at Tavern. A new freebie raffle was instituted this year which proved to be very successful. The first 5 to arrive received twice the number of tickets than the ensuing attendees, as always it pays to be early at Tufts Baseball events. Bryan McDavitt '07, Ben Simon '07, Jon Mugar '99, Zack Brown '00 and Matt Lyman '96 were the lucky winners. Kevin Casey '09 was the final winner of the Tufts Baseball duffle bag. A special thanks once again to our Alums for contributing generously to Coach Burr's son David's College Fund. We were able to raise over $400 for the fund. Check out our facebook page for all the photos from the event. Tufts Baseball would like to thank Dave Bishop '05 and Pro AV Systems Inc. for donating and installing a new sound system and speakers at Huskins Field! 2012 Baseball Schedule Released Become a fan of Tufts Jumbos Baseball HERE Follow the Jumbos on Twitter @TuftsBaseball Jumbo Baseball Puts on Clinic for Lincoln-Sudbury Little League Tufts Baseball alum Jon Cole '00 invited members of the Tufts Baseball team to put on a clinic for Lincoln-Sudbury Little Leaguers on Saturday October 22nd. Jon runs the fall ball program for Lincoln-Sudbury and has put on a couple clinics this fall to help further the development of youth baseball. Several members of the Tufts Baseball team instructed the clinic in areas of throwing, hitting, infield and outfield. The little leaguers then put their skill on display in a soft-toss scrimmage that was coached and umpired by the Tufts players. A special thanks for Jon and the Lincoln-Sudbury little leaguers for having us out for the day. We hope to have them to campus sometime this spring for a game.

In his senior season in 2011, Bernstein was named the NESCAC and New England Pitcher of the Year and to D3Baseball.com's All-American Second Team. The closer was instrumental in helping the Jumbos win the NESCAC Championship as he did not allow an earned run in 32.2 innings pitched (20 appearances). He compiled a record of 2-1 while earning nine saves and had a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 43 to 14. Opponents hit just .127 off of the righthander during the season helping Tufts to a 27-9-1 record and an 11-1 mark in NESCAC East Division play. Bernstein's best outing came on March 24 at N.C. Wesleyan where he went 5.2 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit with eight strikeouts in team's epic 16-inning tie during its spring trip. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 2012 Senior Resumes Are Now Posted In Our Career Center

28 players got up early last Sunday and drove to Amherst College to take part in a Friends of Jaclyn 5K/Fun walk fundraiser for the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation in honor of our teammate Adrian. It was a great day and the players did an outstanding job. Jack Dilday was the first Jumbo to cross the finish line followed closely by Tom Hill and Matt Collins. Coach Brian Casey was the only coaching staff member to run the 5K and finished immediately after the three-legged dog!!! Coach Case and Coach Kenny had a nice kick to finish out the fun walk. It was a memorable event and especially touching at the pre-race rally as several parents spoke. Adrian is doing well and we look to have him become even more involved with the program this season as he makes great strides. Our Teammate We would like to introduce the newest member of our team. His name is Adrian Misic. We adopted him last fall through the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation. Many had the honor to meet Adrian at the golf tournament. He is a very special kid and we plan on having him as part of the Jumbos for many years to come. To learn more about the FOJ foundation please click here.
