2020 Tufts Baseball First Pitch Reception

The 5th Annual 1st pitch reception was held on Friday 2/21 at Fenway Park. The evening was a resounding success with over 140 people in attendance. It was an evening of great camaraderie as well as a positive way to begin the 2020 season. MC Tony Massarotti and guest WBZ TV's Dan Roche held an informative and fun Q&A with the guests. Lots of good "inside" info was discussed. 2020 Captain Elias Varinos spoke eloquently about the program as well as the upcoming season and got the crowd all fired up. Alum and parent Russell O'Brien gave a passionate presentation regarding the fundraising for the new field. It was exciting to hear the solid progress that has been made toward our goal, but we have to keep our momentum going over the next months to help make the field a reality. A great sign was that the most recent grads from 2015-2019 have pledged over 100K to the new project!! What a great initiative lead by Tom Ryan and Cody McCallum--thanks to all the young guys in those classes who have really stepped up to the plate. The evening closed out with our silent auction winners picking up prizes such as signed Bruins jerseys, signed Patriots footballs, a HOF autographed photo and baseball, golf outings, prime Red Sox seats, and a producer for the day opportunity on the Felger and Mazz radio show.

The following day post practice the Jumbos hosted Home for our Troops as they wanted to thank the group for supporting their cause through some fundraising activities. Brandon, an army veteran -hurt in action- in Afganistan told the group his story and expressed how thankful he is to have a home built in NH very soon with the money raised by Homes for our Troops.Victoria, a HFOT's spokesperson explained to the team all the good their initiatives do and thanked the group for their support. It was a great event and the Jumbos are all aboard supporting Homes for Our Troops in the future.

Our busy schedule continues this week with a clinic for Somerville Little League on Saturday and for District 12 Challenger Baseball League on Sunday afternoon. Our team is very excited to work with both programs and give back this weekend. We hope to see you at Huskins this spring! Below is a link to our field project website--it is worth a look!!
