The Jumbos had a tough road to win the 2017 NESCAC Championship. After falling to Middlebury in their second game of the tournament they were forced to fight their way through the losers bracket needing 3 wins to take home the title. In game one of the losers bracket RJ tossed a gem against the Mammoths of Amherst and the Jumbos prevailed 2-1. The forecast for Championship Sunday was bleak with several inches of rain expected but turf facility at Colby allowed for the games to be played. In game one, first year, Elias Varinos made his first collegiate start on the mound throwing 8+ strong innings against Middlebury to help the Jumbos prevail 11-2. In game 2 the bats once again came alive led by Tommy O'Hara who had 5 RBI. 6 different pitchers took the mound for the Jumbos including Tim Superko returning after starting a game Saturday and Speros Varinos who came in to close the game out after pitching 6 innings on Friday. It was a gritty victory for the Jumbos who became the second group in Tufts Baseball history to win back to back NESCAC Championships.
